HomeTown & FHLB Donate $10,000 to SCHS

HomeTown Credit Union and Federal Home Loan Bank partner to donate $10,000 to Steele County Humane Society

Owatonna, MN – June 2025 – HomeTown Credit Union, in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines), is pleased to announce a $10,000 donation to the Steele County Humane Society. This donation is part of a matching grant program that FHLB Des Moines has available to organizations that support mortgage lending, economic development, and affordable housing in the communities they serve. With positive community impact at the forefront of HomeTown’s core values, the partnership with FHLB Des Moines was a seamless fit.

To honor retired CEO, Kim Westphal, HomeTown had originally chosen to donate $2,500 to the Steele County Humane Society — Kim’s love for animals has always been strong, and with her passion for giving back to the community, she is a frequent volunteer at the Humane Society. HomeTown was thrilled to learn that through the FHLB Des Moines Member Impact Fund, the donation would be able to grow 3 times over, for a total of $10,000 that will help pay for the necessary resources and shelter of foster animals in the area.

Since its founding in 2023, the FHLB Des Moines Member Impact Fund has supported community development with nearly $70 million in grants awarded. Member institutions, like HomeTown, can apply for and receive matching grants to be distributed to organizations alongside their own grant contribution.

“We are beyond grateful for the partnership with FHLB Des Moines,” says Chad Corcoran, President and CEO of HomeTown. “Each year, HomeTown sets aside funds to give back to and reinvest in the communities we serve, and this combined donation through the Member Impact Fund allows us to both honor Kim’s career and make a large, meaningful difference for people and animals alike in Owatonna.”

On Friday, June 6, Kim and HomeTown staff presented the $10,000 check to Liane Peterson, President, and Deb Singlestad, Director, with the Steele County Humane Society. The funds will assist with a wide range of needs at their new shelter location.
