Earlier this year, HomeTown was recognized as a winner of the 2022 Desjardins Financial Education Award at the state level. Our winning entry advanced us to the national level where we competed with credit unions from across the country. This month, the national winning entries were announced, and HomeTown received a 2nd place award in the Desjardins Youth $50-250M asset category. The award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy.
HomeTown was honored specifically for our Northfield College and Career Readiness Partnership that included a “Let's Master Money” Gameshow. In the Spring of 2022, our Community Education Coordinator, Kurt Halverson, partnered with Northfield High School to present a 3-part series on financial wellness to their full senior class. The sessions covered budgeting, credit, and other financial topics. The series ended in a financial literacy gameshow where the contestants were tested on their financial wellness knowledge for a chance to win time in the "HomeTown Hurricane" money tornado machine.
With Education as one of our core values, HomeTown is honored to be recognized nationally with this award. We have had a longtime commitment of improving the financial literacy of the communities we serve, and we look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come.
